Virtual Wars was one of those games that never actually came out for the Super Nintendo, at least not officially. It was announced and previewed in some magazines, but the cartridge never made it to store shelves. I remember reading about it back then, wondering what it would have been like. It was developed by a company called Titus, who were known for a few other SNES titles, and it was supposed to be a sci-fi action game. It always felt like a piece of the platform's lost history, a game that existed only in screenshots and descriptions.

From what was shown, you would have controlled a soldier in a mechanized combat suit, moving through side-scrolling levels. The main goal was to fight through enemy forces, using a mix of standard firearms and more powerful, suit-mounted weapons. A key mechanic was the ability to pilot different vehicles you found in the levels, like hover bikes or tanks, which would change your movement and firepower. The game also featured large, multi-stage bosses that required you to learn their attack patterns. The pacing looked fast, with a constant push forward against waves of enemies. Playing it now through prototype versions feels like uncovering a rough draft of an idea that never got its final polish.
