Tommy Moe's Winter Extreme is one of those SNES sports games that somehow nails the chaotic fun of barreling down a mountain at ridiculous speeds. You pick skis or a snowboard—I always went snowboard because, let’s be real, wiping out at 88 mph on flat terrain is way more dramatic. The freestyle mode feels like an arcade racer, dodging trees and hitting jumps while the clock ticks down, and if you don’t make it to the next checkpoint in time? Back to the ski lift for you.
Weather actually matters here—one run might be clear afternoon sun, the next a full-on snowstorm that makes everything blurry. Competition mode is basically the Winter Olympics with way less pressure (and way more pixelated wipeouts). And yeah, the password save system is a relic, but at least you don’t have to restart the whole mountain every time. It’s janky in that classic ‘90s way, but once you get the hang of the controls, there’s something weirdly satisfying about shaving seconds off your time.
