Okay, so The Wizard of Oz on SNES is one of those weird licensed games that actually kinda works. You play as Dorothy—obviously—but the gang’s all here: Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion tag along, each with their own abilities. Scarecrow’s floaty jumps saved me more times than I’d like to admit.
It’s a side-scroller with some light puzzles, like tossing apples at enemies or bouncing on those creepy talking trees. The levels are straight out of the movie—Munchkin Land, the Witch’s castle, even the tornado intro—but don’t expect a cakewalk. Those flying monkeys? Absolute menaces.
Honestly, the music and colors hold up surprisingly well for a 16-bit adaptation. Just don’t go in expecting Super Mario polish. It’s janky in places, but there’s charm in the way it turns a kids’ story into a legit platformer. Grab Toto and give it a shot if you’re into retro oddities.
