Okay, so Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 3 is one of those GBA RPGs that flew under the radar—probably because it never got an official English release. But thanks to the fan translation (still a work in progress at v0.30, but totally playable), you can finally dig into this weird little Tales spinoff.
Right off the bat, it’s classic Tales combat—side-scrolling, real-time, with basic combos and artes. The twist? You’re constantly switching between different characters mid-battle, each with their own movesets. One second you’re slashing as a swordsman, the next you’re flinging spells as a mage. It’s chaotic in the best way, especially when you start unlocking more costumes (yes, outfits change your abilities—samurai hit harder, chefs... well, they cook).
The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, and the dungeons have that old-school "figure it out as you go" vibe. Don’t expect a deep story—it’s more about the grind and experimenting with different character combos. If you’ve played other Tales games, you’ll spot some familiar faces, but honestly, it’s just fun to mess around with the combat system. Just keep in mind the translation’s not 100% complete, but it’s solid enough to enjoy.
