Okay, so Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is one of those SNES gems that somehow flew under the radar back in the day—probably because it never officially made it outside Japan until way later. It’s the second game in the Ogre Battle series, but don’t let that fool you—this one’s a full-on tactical RPG, not the real-time strategy vibe of the first game.
You start off leading a ragtag rebel group through this messy, politically charged war where every choice actually matters. Like, pick the wrong dialogue option, and suddenly half your squad deserts. The grid-based battles feel weighty—positioning matters, elevation matters, and if you don’t pay attention to unit classes, you’ll get wrecked by archers on high ground. Also, the music? Haunting. That SNES sound chip does some heavy lifting here.
It’s got that classic 90s RPG aesthetic, but the story goes way deeper than you’d expect, full of betrayals and moral gray areas. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand—this is the kind of game where you save constantly because a bad turn can spiral fast. If you’re into tactical RPGs at all, this is basically required reading.
