Super Widget on SNES is one of those weird little platformers that somehow sticks with you. You play as this tiny, round-faced hero bouncing through these bright, almost dreamlike levels—somewhere between Kirby and a Saturday morning cartoon. The controls are floaty at first, but once you get the hang of Widget’s weird little spin jump, it clicks.
The music’s got that classic SNES charm—peppy, slightly offbeat synth tracks that burrow into your brain. And the levels? They’re packed with hidden nooks and weird little gimmicks, like teleporters disguised as clouds or enemies that turn into platforms when you hit them. I remember getting stuck for ages on this one ice stage until I realized you could ricochet off the penguins.
It’s not the hardest game out there, but there’s something about the way it mixes cheerful chaos with tight platforming that makes it stand out. If you’re into retro stuff, it’s a solid time capsule from when games could be both silly and surprisingly clever.
