About Super Soccer
Super Soccer came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, developed by Human Entertainment. It was one of the early sports titles on the console, arriving when developers were still figuring out how to translate a team sport into a fun, pixelated experience. You got a straightforward soccer game without the licensing deals or real player names that would become common later.
You control a team of eleven players, switching between them to pass, tackle, and shoot. The main objective is to outscore your opponent within the match time. A couple of mechanics stand out: the through pass, which sends the ball into open space for a teammate to run onto, and the sliding tackle, a risky move that can win the ball or concede a foul. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the computer opponents provide a decent challenge, especially on higher difficulty settings. It feels responsive and direct, a simple but solid interpretation of soccer from that era.
