SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge on the GBA is basically like playing through a lost episode of the show—if that episode involved way more jumping on jellyfish and dodging Plankton’s weird contraptions. You start off running around Bikini Bottom trying to find a gift for Patrick (because of course SpongeBob would stress over something like that), and before long you’re bouncing on trampolines made of sea anemones or sneaking past Mr. Krabs’ security systems.
The graphics nail that bright, wobbly SpongeBob look, and the music’s got that same goofy charm—though after a while, you might catch yourself humming the jellyfish fields theme at random times. Some of the later levels get surprisingly tricky, especially when you’re balancing on floating spatulas or timing jumps just right. It’s not the deepest platformer out there, but if you ever wanted to feel like you’re controlling a cartoon sponge with zero sense of gravity, this does the job perfectly.
Also, no spoilers, but the final boss fight involves a spatula. That’s all I’ll say.
