Spanky’s Quest is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that somehow sticks with you. You play as a monkey—Spanky—who fights by blowing bubbles. Yeah, it sounds ridiculous, but trust me, it works. The first few levels ease you in, bouncing bubbles off walls to knock out enemies, but things get tricky fast when you realize some enemies only go down if you hit them just right.
The worlds are bright and cartoony, with this weird mix of jungle and fantasy themes. One minute you’re hopping on floating platforms, the next you’re dodging fireballs from a wizard. And the bosses? They’re surprisingly tough for a game starring a bubble-blowing monkey.
It’s got that old-school challenge where you’ll probably die a few times figuring out the patterns, but it never feels unfair. Just don’t expect to breeze through it in one sitting—some of those later stages will test your patience. Still, there’s something oddly satisfying about bouncing a bubble just right to take out three enemies at once.
