I first played Space Invaders on my Game Boy in 1994, a version published by Nintendo. It was a familiar sight in an era when portable versions of arcade classics were common, a straightforward conversion that fit right in your pocket.

You control a laser cannon that moves left and right along the bottom of the screen, firing upward at a grid of descending aliens. Your main goal is to destroy every invader before they land or you run out of lives.
