Sonic Battle Game

Ever wanted to see Sonic and friends throw hands? Sonic Battle on the GBA is basically a scrappy little fighting game where you pick your favorite hedgehog (or robot, or echidna) and brawl across tiny, destructible stages. It’s not as polished as something like Smash Bros., but there’s something weirdly charming about Shadow drop-kicking Cream the Rabbit.
The controls take a second to click—you’ve got light attacks, heavy attacks, and special moves tied to button combos. Tails feels awkward at first until you realize his ranged gadgets let you cheese fights from across the screen. And yeah, the story mode’s dialogue is pure early-2000s Sonic cringe, but the sprite work still holds up surprisingly well.
It’s the kind of game you dig out when you’re stuck on a long bus ride and just want to watch Knuckles punch a hole through a wall.
