Smash Tennis on SNES is one of those sports games that just feels right the second you pick up the controller. The ball physics are surprisingly crisp—you can actually place shots with some real finesse, not just whack it and hope. I remember thinking the characters looked a little goofy at first (that umpire’s mustache is something else), but the animations are smooth, and the courts have this bright, almost cartoonish charm.
What surprised me was how much strategy sneaks in. You can’t just power through every match—timing your slices and lobs actually matters, especially against the later opponents. The career mode starts easy but gets brutal fast if you don’t learn to read the AI’s patterns. And yeah, the music’s got that classic SNES cheese, but it weirdly works when you’re in a tense tiebreaker.
Still holds up if you’re into arcade-style sports games with a bit of depth. Just don’t blame me when you rage-quit against the final boss-level opponent.
