About Slap Stick (japan)
Slap Stick came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Enix. It was part of that wave of mid-90s SNES games that tried different things with the RPG format, offering a sci-fi twist instead of the usual fantasy setting.
You control a young boy who builds and commands a team of customizable robots to fight through a series of side-scrolling stages. Your main goal is to explore each area, defeat the enemies you encounter, and gather parts to improve your mechanical team. The signature mechanics involve real-time combat where you directly control your robot, switching between them to use their unique abilities against specific foes. You also manage a home base to develop new equipment and reassemble damaged units between missions. The pacing is brisk, with some challenging enemy patterns that require quick reflexes. It feels like managing a small, clanking army you built yourself.
