Sim Earth on SNES is one of those weird, ambitious '90s sims where you play as a god—but not the smite-people-with-lightning kind. More like a cosmic gardener nudging a planet from bubbling lava to thriving ecosystems. Mess with the atmosphere, tweak the temperature, and watch as single-celled blobs eventually turn into... well, whatever survives your tinkering.
First time I played, I cranked up the oxygen too fast and ended up with a world overrun by giant bugs. Turns out dinosaurs handle methane better. The interface is clunky by today's standards (hello, wall of sliders), but there's something hypnotic about guiding evolution while jazz fusion music plays in the background. Just don't expect Spore—this is more like a digital terrarium where your best-laid plans get wrecked by ice ages.
It's the kind of game where you lose three hours because "one more tweak" turns into terraforming an entire hemisphere for your crab-people civilization.
