Scotland Yard on Game Boy is one of those rare board game adaptations that actually works. You’re either one of the detectives chasing Mr. X through London, or you are Mr. X, sneaking around using taxis, buses, and the underground while leaving just enough clues to keep things interesting.
The first few turns feel a bit slow—you’re just moving tokens on a map, after all—but once Mr. X starts popping up in unexpected places, it gets tense. The detectives have to work together, but everyone’s secretly hoping to be the one who catches him. Meanwhile, if you’re playing as Mr. X, there’s this great moment when you realize you’ve just barely slipped past them, and suddenly you’re sweating over whether to risk a double-back or bolt for a new district.
It’s simple, but the way the tension builds is legit. And yeah, the graphics are basic (it’s Game Boy), but the gameplay holds up way better than you’d expect. Just don’t blame me when you start second-guessing every move.
