Rockman & Forte (or Mega Man & Bass, depending on which version you played) is one of those SNES Mega Man games that flew under the radar for a lot of people. It’s got that classic run-and-gun action you’d expect, but with a twist—you can play as either Mega Man or Bass right from the start. Bass feels way different, with his dash and double-jump making stages play out in a totally new way compared to the usual slide-and-shoot routine.
The level design is brutal in that old-school Mega Man way—some of these stages will wreck you if you’re not careful, especially King’s castle. The robot masters are a weird mix this time, with some real standouts like Dynamo Man and Pirate Man. Oh, and the weapon-stealing mechanic? Still satisfying as ever when you finally take down that boss who’s been stomping you.
It’s not the most polished Mega Man game out there, but if you’re into the series, it’s a solid (and tough) side-story worth playing. Just don’t expect it to go easy on you.
