About Puyo Puyo Fever (j)(caravan)
Puyo Puyo Fever came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. It was part of that era when puzzle games were perfectly suited for quick sessions on a handheld, and this version included a specific Caravan mode that really clicked for me. The game builds on the familiar Puyo Puyo formula but adds its own distinct rhythm.
You control the falling pairs of colored blobs, called Puyos, rotating and placing them to create chains of four or more of the same color. The main objective in Caravan mode is to score as many points as you can within a strict two minute time limit. The signature mechanics are building chain reactions to clear many Puyos at once and using the Fever mode, which gives you a pre built board to execute massive combos. The pacing is frantic because the clock is always counting down, pushing you to think and drop pieces faster. It feels like a race against yourself, trying to set off one more big chain before the time runs out.
