Power Moves on SNES is one of those fighting games that looks simple at first—until you realize how weirdly deep it is. You pick from these over-the-top martial artists (my go-to was the ninja, obviously), and the controls feel stiff for about five minutes before it clicks. Then you’re pulling off these ridiculous spinning kicks and elbow drops that somehow work.
The AI cheats. Badly. By the third fight, the CPU starts reading your inputs like a psychic, so you either learn to feint or just spam jump kicks until something lands. The pixel art’s got that chunky ‘90s charm, though—big characters, bright colors, and these hilarious victory poses where your fighter flexes for way too long.
It’s not Street Fighter, but there’s something satisfying about the jank. You’ll either love it or throw your controller after the fifth rematch. I did both.
