I remember picking up the Game Boy version of Pocahontas back in 1996. It was developed by Tiertex Design Studios, a name I saw on a few other licensed games from that era. This was a time when movie tie-ins were common, and this one fit right in with the other side scrolling adventures on the handheld.

You control Pocahontas through a series of side scrolling levels. Your main goal is to rescue the forest animals that have been captured. Each animal you free grants you a new ability; for example, one lets you double jump to reach higher platforms. The gameplay involves a lot of jumping between tree branches and vines, and you use a tomahawk to fight enemies like English soldiers and wildlife. The levels are fairly linear, but the pacing is quick and the difficulty feels manageable for the most part. Playing it feels like a straightforward, brisk run through a familiar world.
