Penta Dragon (japan) Game

Penta Dragon is one of those Game Boy shooters that feels like it should’ve gotten more love. You’re flying this little dragon (or maybe it’s a ship? Honestly, the sprite’s so tiny it’s hard to tell) through these chunky pixel landscapes, blasting away at weird floating eyeballs and knights on flying horses. The music’s got that classic GB synth vibe—kinda catchy, kinda repetitive after a while.
What’s cool is the power-up system. You collect these orbs that change your shot pattern, and some of them are just straight-up weird, like this one that fires five-way shots diagonally. Took me a few tries to figure out which ones actually worked for my playstyle. Oh, and the bosses? They’re these massive, screen-filling monsters that feel way too big for the Game Boy, in the best way possible.
It’s not the deepest shmup out there, but there’s something charming about how it throws everything at you with zero explanation. You’ll either love that or get wrecked by the third stage.
