Man, Oscar on the SNES is one of those games that just sticks with you. You play as this little knight dude with a goofy grin, bouncing around these bright, cartoony levels that somehow still look great today. The first thing you notice? The controls are tight—no slippery jumps or weird delays, just pure platforming goodness.
Early on, you’re hopping over pits, whacking weird mushroom enemies (why are they always mushrooms?), and grabbing these floating power-ups that change your weapon. I remember wasting like five minutes trying to figure out which one was best before realizing the boomerang was stupidly overpowered. Classic SNES hidden meta.
It’s got that perfect balance of being easy to pick up but tough to master—some of those later levels? Brutal. But in a way that makes you want to try again instead of rage-quit. If you’re into retro platformers, this one’s a gem that holds up way better than it has any right to.
