No Escape on SNES is one of those games that looks simple at first—just another action platformer—but then suddenly you're knee-deep in weirdly tense moments and enemies that actually make you think before charging in. The first level throws you right into it: tight corridors, traps that come out of nowhere, and this eerie soundtrack that somehow makes even picking up power-ups feel urgent.
I remember getting stuck early on because I kept treating it like Contra, but the pacing’s different—you actually have to watch enemy patterns instead of just blasting through. The sprite work holds up surprisingly well, too, especially the boss designs. That first big fight against the… well, I won’t spoil it, but let’s just say I died way more than I’d like to admit.
If you’re into 16-bit action games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a solid deep cut from the SNES library. Just don’t expect to beat it in one sitting.
