Mystical Ninja on Game Boy is one of those weird, charming little platformers that just sticks with you. You play as Goemon—this goofy blue-haired ninja who runs around smacking enemies with his pipe, jumping between pagodas, and occasionally stumbling into these bizarre little towns full of oddball characters. The controls feel a bit stiff at first (it is an old Game Boy game), but once you get the rhythm down, chaining jumps and pipe swings starts to click.
What surprised me was how much RPG stuff they crammed in—you collect coins to buy upgrades, solve these simple but satisfying environmental puzzles, and even get weird power-ups like a giant robot transformation (because why not?). The music’s got that classic chiptune energy, especially the overworld theme that gets stuck in your head for days. It’s not the deepest game, but there’s something about the mix of action and exploration that makes it hard to put down. If you’re into retro platformers with personality, this one’s a gem.
