Monster Maker on Game Boy is basically a weird little art toy disguised as a game. You start with this chunky pixel grid and a bunch of body parts—some creepy, some goofy—and just slap together whatever nightmare fuel comes to mind. I remember spending way too long adjusting antenna lengths or debating whether my abomination needed three eyes or five.

The controls are clunky by modern standards (it is the Game Boy), but there’s something satisfying about watching your frankenstein’s monster twitch to life after connecting the last limb. Half my creations looked like they’d collapse under their own weight, which honestly added to the charm. No stats, no battles—just pure, unhinged monster doodling with a side of nostalgia.

If you ever wanted to design the creature from your childhood nightmares during math class, this was your chance.
