Majin Tensei is one of those weird, early SNES strategy RPGs that never made it out of Japan—which is a shame, because it’s basically Fire Emblem but with demons. You’ve got grid-based battles where positioning matters, but instead of recruiting knights or archers, you’re summoning Oni and negotiating with random monsters mid-fight. The lunar cycle thing from mainline Megami Tensei games is here too, so demons get stronger or weaker depending on the phase. It’s janky in that classic '90s SRPG way, but there’s something oddly satisfying about watching your ragtag team of mythological creatures slowly overwhelm the enemy. If you’re into retro strategy games with a dark twist, this one’s worth digging up.
