Magical Taruruuto-kun 2 is one of those weird, charming Game Boy titles that never left Japan—which is a shame because it’s a total hidden gem. You play as Taruruuto, this little wizard kid with a goofy hat, running and jumping through bright, cartoony levels while tossing magic at enemies. The controls feel a little stiff at first, but once you get used to the rhythm, it’s surprisingly fun bouncing around and experimenting with different spells.
The real standout is the "Raibaa Zone" mechanic—basically, certain spots warp you into this trippy, high-speed autoscrolling section where dodging obstacles feels like a fever dream. It’s chaotic, but in a way that makes you want to try again immediately after faceplanting into a wall. The music’s got that classic Game Boy chiptune energy too, all bouncy and slightly off-key in the best way.
If you’re into quirky platformers with personality, this one’s worth digging up. Just don’t blame me when you get the level 2 theme stuck in your head for days.
