Magical Taruruuto-kun is one of those weirdly charming SNES platformers that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this goofy energy that’s hard not to love. You play as this little wizard kid who runs around slinging spells at bizarre enemies (think walking mushrooms, sentient dumplings, and the occasional grumpy ghost).
The magic system’s the real hook here—you collect these orb things to unlock different spells, and some of them are downright silly. There’s one that turns enemies into harmless blobs, another that makes you temporarily invincible… and then there’s the one that just straight-up flips the screen upside down for a few seconds. It’s chaotic in the best way.
Levels are packed with hidden warp zones and secret power-ups, and the art style’s got that early ‘90s anime vibe—big heads, bright colors, and way too many smiling clouds. The music’s pure SNES-era cheerfulness too, all bouncy synths and chiptune fanfares.
It’s not the hardest platformer out there, but it’s got enough weirdness to keep you grinning the whole way through.
