Lagoon on SNES is one of those weird little action RPGs that feels like it should be way more famous than it is. You play as Nasir, some kind of water-themed hero who has to purify the kingdom’s magic lakes—which sounds simple until you realize every dungeon is packed with monsters that love cornering you. The sword range is frustratingly short at first, but once you get used to the rhythm, swinging at the exact right pixel becomes weirdly satisfying.
It’s got that classic top-down Zelda vibe, but with a darker color palette and some seriously moody music for a 16-bit game. The first time you dive into a dungeon and hear that echoing synth soundtrack, you’ll either love it or nope out immediately. No in-between. The translation’s a bit rough (thanks, early ‘90s), but honestly, that just adds to the charm. If you can push past the jank, there’s a solid adventure here with some surprisingly tough boss fights.
