Telefang 2 Power Version is one of those weird, obscure GBA RPGs that somehow slipped under the radar—probably because it never left Japan. If you played the first Telefang (or the infamous "Dinosaur King" bootlegs), this is more of that same monster-collecting chaos, just with a few extra layers.
You start off calling these little critters—Denjuu—from your phone (very early 2000s vibes) and then running around grid-based maps battling other monsters. The Power Version gives you access to some beefed-up creatures right off the bat, which is nice because the early fights can drag if you don’t know what you’re doing. The sprites are chunky and colorful, and the battle system’s got this weird mix of turn-based and real-time inputs that keeps you on your toes.
It’s janky, it’s Japanese-only, and half the mechanics aren’t explained, but there’s something oddly charming about it. If you’re into retro monster collectors that play by their own rules, this might be worth a look.
