Golvellius Game

Golvellius on the Sega Master System is one of those weird, wonderful action-RPG hybrids that feels like Zelda if it had an identity crisis. You start off in this bright overworld, slashing bushes and poking around caves, but then suddenly you're sliding down vertical caverns dodging bats and spikes like some kind of platformer. The controls take a minute to get used to—your sword swing has this odd delay that keeps catching you off guard at first.
What really sticks with me are the boss fights—each one's this massive screen-filling monster that makes you scramble to figure out their pattern while your health ticks down. The music's got that classic 8-bit charm too, especially the dungeon themes with their eerie, looping melodies. It's janky in places (good luck with some of those pixel-perfect jumps), but there's something special about how it mashes up different genres without caring about rules. If you dig old-school adventures that play by their own weird logic, this one's worth dusting off.
