World Games Game

Man, World Games on the Sega Master System is such a weird little time capsule. You start off picking from these totally random events—like, who thought log rolling and caber toss belonged in the same game? But that’s the charm. The controls are janky in that classic 8-bit way, but once you get the rhythm down, it’s oddly satisfying to watch your pixelated athlete barely survive a cliff dive or faceplant in the barrel jumping.
Some events are way harder than they should be (looking at you, bull riding), but that just makes nailing a perfect run feel like a legit victory. The music’s got that cheesy synth vibe, and the crowd noise sounds like someone recorded a kazoo through a tin can—pure nostalgia. It’s the kind of game you play for 20 minutes, swear off forever, then boot up again an hour later because you *need* to beat your high score in sumo wrestling.
If you’ve got a soft spot for retro weirdness, this one’s a trip.
