About Godzilla (usa, Europe)
I remember picking up Godzilla for the Game Boy around 1990, a release from Compile. It was a time when you could find almost any character, even a giant movie monster, reimagined for that little gray screen. This wasn't a city-smashing rampage; it felt more like a quiet, methodical puzzle.
You control Godzilla from an overhead view, moving screen by screen through maze-like stages. Your main goal is to destroy every single rock in each level to open the exit. You can't just walk through the stages; you use Godzilla's atomic breath to break the rocks, but you have to be careful. The key mechanic is that you can only fire your breath while standing still, which forces you to plan your positioning. You also collect power-ups that temporarily change your breath into a spread shot or a more powerful beam. The pacing is slow and deliberate, and some of the later puzzles get quite difficult, requiring you to clear rocks in a specific order. It feels like a thoughtful, almost meditative challenge, a strange but compelling twist on being the king of the monsters.
