Gadget Racers on the GBA is one of those games that nails the "just one more race" feeling. You start by picking a basic car—nothing fancy, just a boxy little thing—but then the customization kicks in. Swapping out engines, adding weird gadgets like turbo boosters or oil slicks, and even changing the paint job makes each car feel like your own.
The tracks are surprisingly varied for a handheld racer, from tight city streets to dirt paths where you’ll slide all over if you don’t tweak your tires. The AI isn’t pushover-level easy either—mess up a turn, and you’ll spend half the race clawing your way back to third place. It’s got that old-school arcade vibe where winning actually feels earned.
What really sticks with me is how much personality the cars have once you start modding them. My favorite was this neon-green monstrosity with a giant spoiler that handled like a shopping cart on ice, but man, it was fast in a straight line. If you ever played Micro Machines as a kid and wished it had more tinkering, this is your jam.
