Final Fantasy Legend II on Game Boy is one of those RPGs that feels way bigger than it has any right to be. You start by picking your party—humans, mutants, monsters, or robots—and right away you realize each type plays completely differently. I went with a mutant my first time and spent half the game regretting it when their skills kept changing randomly.
The world’s this weird mix of floating islands and post-apocalyptic cities, and you’re basically hopping between dimensions trying to stop some god-tier nonsense. Battles are simple turn-based stuff, but the weapon durability system keeps you from just spamming your best gear. Nothing worse than your favorite sword breaking mid-dungeon.
It’s janky in that classic Game Boy way—good luck figuring out some mechanics without a guide—but there’s something charming about how ambitious it is for a tiny cartridge. The music’s surprisingly great too, especially that overworld theme. Just don’t expect a happy ending.
