Final Fantasy Legend on Game Boy is one of those old-school RPGs that feels rough around the edges now, but there’s something weirdly charming about it. You start by picking between humans, mutants, or monsters—mutants get random magic skills, which is either awesome or frustrating depending on your luck. The battles are simple turn-based stuff, but figuring out how to manage your party’s weird evolution system (especially if you go the monster route) is half the fun.
The story’s pretty basic—climb a tower to reach paradise—but the vibe is pure early Final Fantasy, with that grainy Game Boy aesthetic and those crunchy synth tracks. It’s janky in places (good luck with the inventory limits), but if you’re into retro RPGs, it’s a neat time capsule of the series’ roots. Just don’t expect the polish of later games.
