Final Fantasy Legend III on the Game Boy is one of those RPGs that starts simple—you pick your party, wander a town, and get thrown into a time-travel mess before you even finish your first potion. The class system’s neat—mutants, humans, robots, monsters—but I always ended up leaning hard on mutants for their weird skill combos.
It’s got that classic 8-bit grind, but the time-hopping keeps it from feeling stale. One minute you’re in a medieval village, next you’re futzing with airships in some sky city. The story’s surprisingly heavy for a Game Boy cart, too—less “save the princess” and more “stitch reality back together before time eats itself.”
Not gonna lie, the inventory system’s a pain (why do robots need swords?), but the boss fights make up for it. That final showdown? Pure chaos in the best way. If you’ve got a soft spot for janky old-school RPGs with big ideas, this one’s worth dusting off.
