Dragon’s Lair on SNES is basically a medieval gauntlet of instant-death traps, and you play as Dirk the Daring—who, let’s be honest, stumbles into every spike pit and dragon flame like a knight who skipped coffee that morning. The game’s all about memorizing the exact split-second to swing your sword, duck, or jump, because one wrong move means a hilariously over-the-top death animation.
It’s a port of the arcade classic, so the animation still looks gorgeous—fluid, cinematic, like you’re controlling a cartoon. But don’t let that fool you. The controls are stiff as a suit of armor, and the timing is brutal. You’ll die. A lot. Then you’ll memorize the sequence, die slightly less, and feel like a genius when you finally nail that hallway of swinging axes.
Honestly, half the fun is seeing how creatively Dirk can get wrecked before he rescues the princess. Just don’t throw your controller.
