Custom Robo GX on the GBA is one of those games where you spend way too much time tweaking your little robot before even stepping into a fight. You start off with a basic robo frame, but then you’re immediately bombarded with choices—legs for speed, arms for power, and a ridiculous variety of guns and bombs that all feel wildly different. I remember picking the flamethrower first, thinking it’d be OP, only to get wrecked by some guy with homing missiles.
The battles are fast and chaotic, with tiny arenas that force you to think on your feet. There’s a story mode, but let’s be real—you’re here to build weird combos and see what works. Half the fun is losing badly, then going back to the garage to swap out parts like a mad scientist. The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, and the sound effects for all the weapons have this satisfying crunch to them.
If you’ve got a GBA lying around, this one’s a solid time sink for anyone who likes tinkering as much as fighting.
