Chrono Trigger is one of those SNES classics that just sticks with you. You start as Crono, this silent red-haired kid who accidentally gets thrown into a time-travel mess after a freak accident at the Millennial Fair. The first hour alone has you bouncing between medieval castles, post-apocalyptic wastelands, and a surprisingly lively prehistoric village—all with that killer Yasunori Mitsuda soundtrack setting the mood.

The combat’s this slick hybrid of turn-based and real-time where enemies actually move around the battlefield. At first I just mashed the basic attacks, but then you realize how satisfying it is to chain together dual and triple techs with your party. Frog’s water sword slash paired with Crono’s lightning? Chef’s kiss.

This particular hack tweaks some of the Coliseum battles and adds a few quality-of-life fixes—nothing too drastic, just enough to make replays feel a little fresher. Still the same brilliant story about friendship, consequences, and stopping the end of the world across multiple eras. The fact that you can actually see how your choices ripple through time never gets old.

Also, no spoilers, but there are like a dozen different endings depending on when you decide to face the final boss. My first playthrough I totally missed an entire character because I didn’t backtrack to a certain era at the right time.
