About Castle Quest (europe)
Castle Quest came out in 1993 for the Game Boy, a time when portable adventures were often bite sized. It was published by Hudson Soft, and it fit right in with the kind of exploratory action games you'd find on the system.
You control a young hero tasked with rescuing a princess from a cursed castle. Your goal is to explore the castle room by room, a screen at a time, fighting off monsters with your sword. You also use a bow to hit switches and targets from a distance, which opens new paths. The game involves a lot of backtracking and careful key management to unlock the correct doors. It can be quite difficult, demanding patience as you map the castle in your head. Playing it feels like a deliberate, methodical puzzle where every step forward is earned.
