Bonk’s Adventure on Game Boy is one of those weird, charming platformers that just sticks with you. You play as this little caveman with a comically oversized head, and yeah—you bonk things with it. A lot. The controls are simple (jump, bonk, repeat) but the levels throw in these little surprises, like enemies popping out of nowhere or hidden fruit tucked behind breakable walls.
The art style holds up surprisingly well for a Game Boy title—bright, chunky sprites and these goofy dinosaur enemies that look like they’re straight out of a kid’s doodle. At first, I kept missing jumps because Bonk’s movement has this slight floatiness, but once you get the rhythm down, bouncing off enemies’ heads feels weirdly satisfying.
It’s not super deep, but there’s something about the sheer absurdity of headbutting a T-Rex that never gets old. If you’re into retro platformers with personality, this one’s a solid pick.
