Okay, so Bionicle: Matoran Adventures is one of those GBA games that feels like it got lost in time—in a good way. You start off as a Matoran (basically the little guys from the Bionicle world), running around Mata Nui smashing Rahi beasts with your weirdly satisfying melee combos. The controls are simple—jump, attack, and later you unlock elemental powers—but the levels get surprisingly tricky with hidden masks and some light platforming.
What I like is how it actually feels like a Bionicle game, not just a generic action platformer. The music’s got that tribal-techno vibe, and the enemies are all those creepy crab-spider things from the early 2000s sets. The Toa show up in cutscenes, which is cool if you were into the lore, but honestly? The Matoran gameplay holds up better than you’d expect.
It’s not perfect—some of the hit detection is janky, and the camera occasionally fights you—but for a licensed GBA title, it’s way more fun than it had any right to be. If you still have a soft spot for Bionicle, this one’s a solid nostalgia trip.
