Best of the Best is one of those early SNES fighting games that feels a little rough around the edges now, but man, did I waste hours on it as a kid. You pick from eight fighters—each with their own weirdly exaggerated fighting style—and then just wail on each other in these tiny, flat arenas. No fancy combos here, just basic punches, kicks, and the occasional super move if you can pull off the awkward button combos.
The graphics are blocky, the controls are stiff, and the AI cheats like crazy on higher difficulties. But there’s something weirdly charming about how straightforward it is. You’ll either love its simplicity or get bored after two matches. I still fire it up sometimes for nostalgia, even if it hasn’t aged as well as, say, Street Fighter II. It’s a time capsule of early '90s fighting games.
