About Battle Unit Zeoth (japan)
Battle Unit Zeoth came out for the Game Boy in 1991 from Jaleco. It was part of that wave of early handheld games where developers were figuring out what worked on the small screen, often creating compact versions of console genres. You would see a lot of shooters and action games trying to capture a similar feel to their bigger counterparts, and this one fit right into that experimental space.
You pilot a large mech, moving it left and right across the bottom of the screen to fend off waves of alien invaders. Your main goal is simply to survive the onslaught, destroying every enemy and boss that appears. The gameplay involves switching between a standard forward shot and a more powerful, screen clearing bomb attack, which you have to use sparingly. Stages are relatively short but intense, with enemy patterns that require quick reflexes and memorization. The difficulty is consistent for the era, meaning it can feel punishing if you miss a key dodge. Controlling the mech gives a satisfying sense of weight and firepower as you hold the line against the invasion.
