Alright, so Al Unser Jr.'s Road to the Top on SNES is one of those old-school racing games that feels like it’s trying to be serious but ends up being kind of goofy in the best way. You’ve got these boxy little cars that somehow feel both sluggish and way too fast at the same time—like you’re either barely nudging the turns or suddenly fishtailing into the grass.
The tracks are decently varied, though. Some are tight and twisty, others wide-open speedways where you can floor it (until you inevitably clip a wall). The AI drivers? They’re aggressive. Like, "swerve into you for no reason" aggressive. You’ll spend half the race trying not to spin out from their nonsense.
It’s got that early ‘90s racing vibe—simple controls, no fancy assists, just you wrestling with the physics. Not gonna lie, it takes a few races to get the hang of it, but once you do, there’s something satisfying about nailing a clean lap. Just don’t expect Gran Turismo-level realism.
If you’re into retro racers with a side of chaos, this one’s worth a few laps.
