Al Unser Jr.'s Road to the Top is one of those '90s SNES racers that feels like it should be way more exciting than it actually is. You get a handful of tracks, some decent (for the time) car models, and that classic early polygonal look—but the handling's weirdly stiff, like your tires are made of concrete. I remember popping it in expecting something like Top Gear, only to spend the first lap bouncing off walls because the turns don’t give you much warning.
It’s not all bad, though. The damage system’s kinda fun—watch your car slowly crumple after too many crashes—and the two-player mode at least gives you something to laugh about with a friend. Just don’t go in expecting depth. This is the kind of game you rent once, play for an afternoon, and forget exists until you spot it in a retro collection years later.
