Yam Yam is one of those weird little SNES gems that never left Japan—which is a shame because it's got this bizarre charm to it. You control this round, stretchy blob thing (the "Yam Yam") that can stick to walls and ceilings, swinging around like some kind of gelatinous Tarzan. The physics feel janky at first, but once you get the hang of flinging yourself across gaps, it’s oddly satisfying.
The levels are these compact, puzzle-like obstacle courses where timing your swings is key. Mess up, and you’ll splat into spikes or get zapped by floating eyeball enemies (yeah, it’s that kind of game). The music’s got this upbeat, almost carnival-like vibe that somehow fits the absurdity of playing as a sentient wad of chewing gum.
It’s not perfect—some jumps feel way too precise, and the later stages get brutal—but there’s something weirdly addictive about it. If you’re into obscure platformers with a learning curve, this one’s worth a look.
