Man, Tecmo Super Bowl III on SNES was the last hurrah for this series—and they went out swinging. You get the full NFL roster (for the time, anyway), plus way more plays to call than the earlier games. The hits feel brutal, like you can almost hear the crunch when your running back gets leveled.
What’s cool is you can finally create your own player, which was a big deal back then. I spent way too much time making some overpowered linebacker just to wreck my friends in multiplayer. The playbooks are deeper too, so you’re not just spamming the same three plays all game.
It’s not perfect—the graphics are still that chunky early ‘90s style—but if you want that classic Tecmo football feel with a few extra layers, this is the one. Just don’t expect your created player to save the Lions from being terrible.
