Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis is one of those GBA gems that still holds up if you're into deep, tactical RPGs. You start off leading a small squad of knights and mages across grid-based battlefields, and right away, the game doesn’t hold your hand—positioning matters, terrain affects your movement, and one wrong move can leave your healer exposed. Classic Ogre Battle vibes, but streamlined for handheld play.

What I love is how much freedom you have in building your team. You can recruit random soldiers, train them into archers or ninjas, or even turn them into holy knights if you’re patient. The story’s got that political intrigue the series is known for, with betrayals and moral choices that actually change how things play out. It’s not as flashy as modern SRPGs, but the strategy here is rock-solid.

Fair warning, though—it’s tough. Early battles can feel brutal if you don’t take time to grind a little or think ahead. But once your squad starts clicking, pulling off a perfect ambush or barely surviving a boss fight feels amazing. If you’ve got a GBA (or an emulator), this one’s still worth digging up.
