Super Tennis on SNES is one of those games that looks simple at first—just whack a ball back and forth, right? But once you dive into the Circuit mode, it gets surprisingly deep. You start by picking a player (I went with the baseline grinder at first, which was a mistake) and then hop between eight tournaments, trying to climb the rankings before the season ends.
The controls feel crisp, and there’s this weirdly satisfying weight to the ball when you nail a topspin shot down the line. Matches get tense fast, especially when the AI starts reading your serves. I lost my first finals match because I kept trying drop shots—bad idea against the aggressive players.
It’s not flashy, but the gameplay holds up way better than you’d expect from a 30-year-old tennis sim. Just don’t get cocky after winning a few matches; the later tournaments will humble you real quick.
